What to Do When You Have a Flea Problem
Do you find your dog (or cat) scratching itself more than usual? OR are you scratching yourself more than usual? Chances are you may have a flea infestation within your home that’s causing your scratching woes. Here’s what you should do when these tiny pests take over your home.
Address Your Pet
More times than not, you can blame your pets for your newfound flea problem. As soon as you find a single flea on your beloved dog or cat, run to the pet store (or shop online) for a flea-killing shampoo. Wash your pet thoroughly to remove any existing fleas from their frame. After they’re dried off from their bath, slap a flea collar on your furry friend.
Remove From the Rug
Now that your pet is flea-free (for now), grab your vacuum and begin vacuuming your home from top to bottom. A thorough cleaning job should be able to kill most fleas, as well as any eggs that have yet to hatch. Remember to move furniture around, use attachments to get into hard to reach corners, as well as vacuum any furniture. Upon completion, immediately remove the vacuum bag and throw it in the outside trash bin.
Washing With Warm
Any clothing, linens, towels, or pet bedding that you believe has been compromised by fleas should be washed. Choose the warmest temperature setting that each material can possibly handle to effectively kill these pests. Use your usual liquid laundry detergent and dry as you normally would.
