How to Avoid Pests in an Apartment Building
Living in an apartment building can oftentimes increase your risk of hosting a pest infestation. Since apartment buildings have so many different people living in one building, if your neighbors develop an infestation, it could wind up affecting your apartment. Fortunately, there are ways to lower your risk of developing a pest problem.
Inspect Furniture
For those who are just moving into a new apartment, be careful about which furniture you bring into your new place. If you do happen to purchase used couches and recliners, make sure you thoroughly inspect and clean them. Pests like bed bugs are great at latching on and hiding in furniture.
Repair Plumbing
Check plumbing (especially under the sink) for leaks that will need to be repaired. Having high areas of moisture will not only cause mold growth, but this will be an attractive space for pests like cockroaches and rodents to congregate. Find out who is responsible for fixing plumbing in the apartment building (whether it’s you or the landlord).
Laundry Day
If your apartment building has a shared laundry room, make sure you don’t leave your clothing out in the open. Rather than leaving your hamper of dirty clothes in the laundry room while you wait for the washer to free up, keep it in your apartment. Pests like bed bugs, roaches, and mice can sneak their way into your clothes hamper and eventually find their way back to your apartment.
