How to Protect Your Backyard BBQ From Pests
A barbecue in the backyard is the most classic and fun way to enjoy dinner in the summertime. Everything about them is enjoyable and relaxing, besides the pesky pests that lurk in your yard. If you’re looking to pest-proof your property, write down a few of these tips.
Restricted Airspace
While mosquitoes might not be seen annoying your guests at the barbecue, they’ll for sure leave their mark for the next week or so in the form of itchy bites. Prevent them from entering your property’s airspace by removing any standing water so they don’t have any places to breed. You should also cut the lawn and pull out any tall weeds, as mosquitoes will fly mostly in areas with tall grass.
Shoo Fly, Don’t Bother Me
Once all of the food is done being prepared and cooked, try to keep it all inside of the house. Any food that sits outside for more than a few minutes will begin to attract flies. Fire up the grill, cook the food, and bring everything inside that’s not currently being eaten. If there’s no room inside, keep all of the food trays covered.
Everybody Clean Up
A clean barbecue is a happy one. In order to speed up the cleaning process, keep large garbage bags in plain site so everyone can throw out their garbage as soon as they’re done with it. This will cut down on the amount of food that’s left out in the open, thus cutting down on the possibility of having an infestation of ants. If just one plate, cup, can, or piece of food is left out, a colony of ants can appear and cause unnecessary problems.
