Plants That Naturally Repel Pests
Now is the time to start prepping your garden for the slowly approaching warm weather. While you’re looking for what to plant this year, consider a few plants to help naturally repel pests away from your garden. Nothing’s worse than having a beautiful garden filled with destructive pests.
Artemisia
This plant is perfect if you’re looking to repel a majority of insects from a flower garden. Place these on the outside border of the garden to not only keep most insects out, but also small animals. Don’t use these plants in vegetable gardens due to the poison that they produce.
Basil
Why not kill two birds with one stone and utilize a plant that repels insects and tastes amazing? Mosquitoes, flies, and thrips will keep a safe distance from anything that surrounds basil plants. Just remember to keep an eye out for Japanese beetles because they love the taste of basil. Can you blame them?
Chives
You want to plant basil near your tomatoes so they grow to be big and juicy, but Japanese beetles are ruining your plants. Plant chives next to the basil in order to deter these beetles from approaching your garden. Now you have two delicious vegetables to eat and protect your crops.
Marigolds
There are multiple species of marigolds that can each ward off different types of pests. The French species will repel whiteflies and nematodes while the Mexican species will repel many insects and rabbits. Just keep an eye out for an increase in spider mites and snails around your plants.
