Prevent Mosquitoes From Ruining Your Labor Day Party
Labor Day weekend is finally upon us and you know what that means — let the festivities begin! With this holiday weekend marking the end of the traditional summer, parties, barbecues, and get-togethers are more than plentiful. When you throw your Labor Day weekend party, don’t let mosquitoes ruin all of the fun.
Remove Standing Water
Mosquitoes tend to breed by pools of standing water so it’s important to remove any water sources from your property. Rainfall will usually collect in buckets, empty plant pots, birdbaths, or gutters if they’re not properly maintained. Empty out the water, clean the surface, and make sure it dries so the mosquitoes don’t have a place to breed.
Tending a Garden
Planting a garden is not only a great way to improve the look of your property, but it can also help ward off mosquitoes. Consider planting citronella, basil, mint, rosemary, and lavender plants as these blood sucking pests despise them. Walk over to your garden throughout the party and rub your hands on the leaves of these plants. This will release the oils into the air and more importantly, onto your skin.
Skin Protection
No matter how much you do to your yard, you’re always going to want to apply something to your skin as an insurance measure. Apply a mosquito repellent before and throughout the party just to be sure you don’t wake up with any itchy bites. Natural repellents made with citronella and lavender are highly recommended.
